I’m Dreaming of a (Black &) White Christmas

It’s nearly here, one week to go until the jolly old guy in the red suit arrives.  I hope he has air conditioning on the sleigh because it’s freakishly warm here!!

I’ve been getting in a Christmasy mood by breaking out the seasonal movies and it dawned on me that most of my favourites are in black and white – Holiday Inn, The Bishop’s Wife, It’s a Wonderful Life.  I know colour versions have since been produced which is a travesty, you don’t mess with perfection!!

When you look at the eye smacking White Christmas the atmosphere somehow gets lost in the red mist and lip gloss ..

I know it’s a time of year when almost any gaudy vision is forgiven (except tinsel, I hate tinsel!) but I like a more natural version – just with lights on, lots of twinkly lights ..

Have a wonderful Winter weekend!

  1. It’s A Wonderful Life is a great one!! So is White Christmas, wife and I watch that movie any time of the year. Wishing you a great Christmas and stay dry. My friend James in England says it’s raining so much that towns are being flooded. Really sad.

    1. Thanks John. Yep the weather is a bit weird here at the moment. Quiet mild but very wet, the West coast has some terrible floods. Hope you are well in to Holiday mode and looking forward to Christmas.

  2. I don’t know that I’ve ever seen The Bishop’s Wife, but I can watch the other two as often as you like.

It’s so warm that neither of the pubs I visited over the weekend had their fires lit.

    1. The Bishop’s Wife is lovely – anytime of year. Just get the black & white version with Cary Grant and David Niven. How disappointing is it to go in to a pub with a fireplace and it not be lit!!
